How is auto glass repaired?
Answer:
When a windshield is damaged, it often needs
replacing.  However, if the damage is minor, such as a small crack or chip, the glass may only need repair.  An auto glass repair company can usually fix minor auto glass damage quickly and easily.  In addition, auto glass repair is usually much cheaper than it would be to replace an entire windshield or window.

Like with auto glass replacement, many auto glass repair companies will come to where the customer is, especially if it would be dangerous for the customer to drive with the damage to the glass.  Auto glass repair does not always get rid of the problem entirely, but will stop it from spreading.  It is usually a fast process.

To repair auto glass, first the crack or chip is cleaned and dried thoroughly.  When it is fully dry, the auto glass specialist injects resin into the area, and holds it in place with Mylar or a similar material.  The resin is “cured” by using ultraviolet light, before all excess material is scraped off, and the repaired section of glass is polished.

Some auto repair shops do the same repair on windshield scratches. But there are times when it could not be avoided and you would have to replace the whole windshield...
