How is auto glass replaced?

Answer:
Auto glass specialists are usually the ones
who are called to replace auto glass.  Many of them provide mobile services, since it can be unsafe to drive a vehicle that has missing, shattered, cracked, or chipped glass.  For cars that take standard sizes of glass, auto glass repair companies can usually make the repairs the same day.  It will take longer if the glass needs to be specially ordered by the glass repair company.

When replacing a windshield, an auto glass specialist must first remove the molding and wipers.  Then, any part of the remaining windshield is removed, and all adhesive stripped away.  Glass debris is vacuumed up, and new adhesive is set in place around the space for the windshield.  The new windshield is set in place, and the wipers and molding are replaced.  Generally, it is a good idea to let the windshield sit for an hour or two to make sure the adhesive is fully set.

Although windshields are the type of auto glass most frequently in need of replacement, other car windows need replacing at times.  This process is similar to a windshield replacement, although depending upon the mechanism for raising and lowering the windows, the car door may need to be taken apart and reassembled.
