What are the safest cars on the road?

Answer:
Buying a new car, or even just a "new to you"
car, can be an exciting adventure.  Potential car buyers tend to take into account the color, model, and comfort of a car before buying.  However, safety is another feature that needs to be considered when buying a car – new or used.  Not only is it important to keep you and your family safe, but insurance companies also take safety features into account when determining your rates.  Fortunately, there are many different types of cars with advanced safety features and excellent safety ratings.

If you have the money, a high-end car might be the way to go.  The Audi A4, BMW 330i, and Lexus ES300 are all at the top of the list when it comes to safety for upscale sedans.  For families who don’t quite have the money for those cars, there are some exceptionally safe family sedans.  The Toyota Camry XLE and the Volkswagen Passat GLX were rated as the safest family sedans by Consumer Reports.

Many people are particular to cars at the large or small end of the spectrum.  For SUVs, the Lexus RX300, the Toyota Highlander, and the Acura MDX all came in with excellent safety ratings.  In the small car category, the Volkswagen Golf TDI was the safest, closely followed by the Honda Civic EX and the Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI.  Pickup trucks as a whole are not terribly safe, but the safest ones are the Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7, the Ford F150 XLT 5.4, and the Dodge Ram SLT 4.7.

Of course, even the safest car can get into accidents.  While you always want to buy the safest car that you can, careful driving and reliable maintenance are really the most important factors in automobile safety.
