By 1916, Chevrolet was doing well enough to allow Durant to buy majority shares of General Motors, and by 1917 he was GM’s President, and the Chevrolet family was adopted by the GM family as a separate division.

Since then, Chevrolet has continued to provide solid support to GM’s bottom line with attention to a broad market ranging from top to bottom of the financial scale and the Chevy line now includes dozens of vehicle types from school bus chassis and commercial trucks to power pickups and plush SUV’s to luxurious van-coaches and utility wagons to the puddle-jumpers and windup-toy mini cars, and of course the renowned Chevrolet Corvette sports roadster…and so much more in between!

Chevrolet vehicles have been thought of by many as America’s family car; dependable, economical, simple, functional and even fun.  Chevy sold millions of station wagons to growing baby-boomer families,  and the continued success of the Chevrolet line of vehicles attests to its overall integrity and its position in the hierarchy of all things automotive.
