What is a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?

Answer:
A hybrid electric vehicle is powered by a traditional
gasoline engine and an electric motor. Depending on driving conditions, the vehicle may be powered by gasoline, electricity, or any combination of the two at any given time.

The electric motor is fueled by a rechargeable battery pack that is guaranteed by most manufactures for 80,000 to 100,000 miles. On average, hybrid vehicles offer 25% greater fuel economy than comparable gasoline only models.

Top-selling hybrids include Toyota Prius and Camry, Honda Civic, and Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner compact SUVs. General Motors is planning to introduce hybrid technology in its full-size SUVs in 2008.
