What is Grand Prix Motor Racing?

Answer:
Grand Prix motor racing is the original form
of automobile racing, beginning in the late 1800s.  Although it began as a short road race in between two towns, it quickly became more along the lines of endurances races.

One of the dangers of early Grand Prix motor racing was that the races were performed on open roads.  This proved to be very dangerous for both drivers and fans, and some racecourses began to be built, such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500 race.

Eventually, Grand Prix motor racing turned into formula racing, such as Formula One.  The Formula One races carry on the tradition by calling each event a Grand Prix.
