What is NASCAR? |
|
Answer:
NASCAR, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing,
NASCAR presides over many stock car races in North America, but the three biggest are the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series, and the Camping World Truck Series. Although only officially sanctioning races in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, NASCAR has put on exhibition races in other countries around the world, including Japan and Australia. The organization has multiple business offices, but is headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Although NASCAR is arguably the most popular sport in the United States, it is not without its critics. Some complain that the stock cars used today in stock car racing are a far cry from real stock cars. Others are concerned about the effect of stock car racing and NASCAR on the environment, citing emissions produced and gasoline consumed.
