What is Stock Car Racing?

Answer:
Automobile racing has become very popular in
much of the world.  Although to the uninterested, all car racing may appear equal, there are actually very different types of car racing.  Stock car racing is one variety of automobile racing.

Especially popular in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Brazil, stock car races are usually held on an oval track but may also be raced on other courses.  Cars do not usually reach the same speeds as are reached on open wheel races.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, or NASCAR, is the best known stock car governing organization.  Its most famous race is the Sprint Cup Series, sponsored by Sprint Nextel Corporation.  Stock car races usually range between 200 and 600 miles in length, which is a lot of laps around the raceway!
