How long does an Accident, DUI or Ticket stay on my driving record in Alabama? |
|
Answer:
Driving records are maintained for legally licensed Accidents, DUI/DWI (Driving Under the Influence/Driving While Intoxicated), and moving violations (speeding, running red lights or stops signs, etc.) are usually assigned specific "points" by most state Departments of Motor Vehicles. However, some states might leave certain types of violations on the record for longer periods than others; and some states might leave certain ones on forever. According to Alabama's Department of Public Safety website, some traffic violations remain permanently on driving records, although it is not clearly defined which ones stay on, or for how long. This is what their website says about that particular issue: "After a traffic conviction is 2 years old, it loses its point count for suspension purposes but remains on a driver's record." Period. No further explanations or lists telling specific durations for specific infractions. Each Alabama DUI conviction is referred to a Court Referral Officer (C.R.O.) for evaluation and referral to community resources and programs. At minimum, defendants must complete a DUI/DWI program specified by the courts. No driver's license may be reinstated until satisfactory completion of such program is proven. Trackback(0)
