What are the Georgia State Driving Laws?

Answer:
Georgia uses a point system to track poor drivers.
Some common traffic violations and the points they are assigned are:

· Reckless driving – 4 points
· Speeding – 2 – 6 points (depending on speed)
· Aggressive driving – 6 points
· Passing violation – 4 points

Earning 15 points within 24 months will result in a license suspension.

You must always obey the posted speed limits when driving in Georgia. Failure to do so will result in a ticket and fines. Many rural interstates have a speed limit of 70 mph. Urban interstates generally have a speed limit of 65. Highways and freeways often have a speed limit of 55 mph. Residential or business districts typically have a speed limit of 30 mph. There is no law against using cellular phones in the state of Georgia.

Anyone who is in the front seat of a car in Georgia must be wearing a seatbelt. Also, all passengers under the age of 18 must wear a seatbelt, even if in the rear. Pickup trucks are exempt from this law. Children who are five and under must be in an appropriate child safety restraining system. The fine for violating the seatbelt law is $15. All people on motorcycles must be wearing helmets.

You must always yield the right of way to emergency vehicles when they are flashing their lights. If you can, either pull over to the side of the road or make a lane change that puts you in a lane that is not adjacent to the vehicle. If not, reduce your speed to let the emergency vehicle pass, and be prepared to stop if you can.
