There is no law regulating the use of helmets by those on motorcycles in Iowa. Anyone driving in Iowa must follow the posted speed limit. Business districts have a speed limit of 20 mph. Residential and school districts have a speed limit of 25 mph. Suburban roads have a speed limit of 45 mph. Interstates have a speed limit of 65 mph. All other roads have a speed limit of 55 mph, unless otherwise marked. Failure to follow the posted speed limit will earn you a ticket and a fine. There is no law in Iowa about the use of cell phones while driving. Always yield the right of way to emergency vehicles that have their lights or sirens on. If you can, pull over to the right hand side of the road. However, if there is a median between you and the emergency vehicle, you do not have to stop. Also, you should never stop in an intersection.
