What are the Michigan Lemon Laws?

Answer:
Michigan, where the automotive industry grew
up in America, has Lemon Laws that are similar to many other states in the protection they provide consumers purchasing new motor vehicles.

Described as:
Michigan Lemon Law
Act 87 of 1986
MCL 257.1401

The Michigan Lemon Laws require consumers to make their official complaint of a motor vehicle non-compliance to manufacturer's express warranties within the manufacturer's warranty period or one year, whichever is earliest.

Michigan Lemon Laws require consumers to allow a reasonable number of attempts at repairing non-compliances before the manufacturer must replace the vehicle or refund money.

If a vehicle is out of service longer than 30 days while repair attempts are being made, consumers may elect to receive a replacement vehicle or refund of the purchase price.

Consumers are expected to follow any procedures that manufacturers may have in place for resolving claims of this type prior to replacement or refund.
