What are the South Dakota State Driving Laws? |
|
Answer:
South Dakota uses a point system to track driving · DWI – 10 points · Reckless Driving – 8 points · Passing violation – 4 points · Racing – 6 points · Failure to yield right of way – 4 points Any driver who accumulates 15 points in a year will have a driver license suspension for up to 60 days. When driving in the state of South Dakota, always follow the posted speed limit. On interstates you can travel 75 mph. All other highways, unless otherwise marked, have a 65 mph speed limit. The speed limit in urban areas is 25 mph, unless otherwise marked. Failure to follow the speed limit results in a ticket and a fine. There is no cell phone law in South Dakota. You must also follow the seatbelt law when driving in South Dakota. Front seat passengers, drivers, and children under the age of 18 must wear seatbelts in this state. Children under the age of five must be in a child safety seat, unless the child weighs more than 40 pounds. Failure to follow the seatbelt law results in a minimum fine of $20. Anyone under the age of 18 who is riding on a motorcycle must wear a helmet. You must yield the right of way to emergency vehicles that have their lights or sirens on. If the vehicle is moving, you must pull over to the right hand side of the road and stop. If you do not stop, you could go to jail and be fined as much as $200. Trackback(0)
