How can I renew my Louisiana Drivers License?

Answer:
If you are a licensed Louisiana driver, you
will receive a renewal notice 100 days before your license is scheduled to expire. The notice will tell you whether or not you need to renew in person.

If you are not required to renew in person, you can renew by mail, online, or over the phone.

To renew in person, if required, you will visit the local OMV office with your current license. You will also need to bring proof of insurance. You will pay $21.50 for your renewal, plus up to $3 in handling fees.

To renew by mail you will need to download the application at this link: http://www.dps.state.la.us/omv/forms/2003.pdf . Fill in the application and mail it, along with $21.50, to:

Office of Motor Vehicles Vehicle Renewal Mail-In Unit
P.O. Box 64886
Baton Rouge, LA 70896

If you can renew through the phone or online, you will be told so on your renewal notice. The telephone renewal system is called interactive voice response, or IVR. The number you will call is 1-888-956-5111.

To renew online, visit http://omv.dps.state.la.us/dlrenewal/dl1.asp and follow the instructions. With both of these options, you will have to pay the fee with a credit card. There is an added fee when paying online or over the phone.
