When your Maryland
driver’s license expires, you can renew either in person or by mail.

To renew in person, stop by your local MVA office after you receive your reminder postcard. You will need to bring the postcard with you along with your old license. You will be asked to give your Social Security number and undergo a vision test.

You can renew by mail every other time your license expires, and your eligibility will be noted on the renewal postcard. The instructions to renew by mail will be on the postcard. If you are over 40, you will need to have a vision check by your doctor or optometrist.

You will need to have the doctor fill in this form: http://www.marylandmva.com/Resources/DL-043A.pdf . You will then mail the form with the rest of your paperwork to the address on the postcard. The fee to renew, whether in person or through the mail, is $30.
