How can I renew my Montana Drivers License?

Answer:
The length of time you can go between renewals in the
state of Montana varies depending on your age. Young drivers who are under 21 will have to renew when they turn 21. Those between that ages of 21 and 67 must renew every eight years. Those who are between 68 and 74 can wait until their 75th birthdays to renew.

All drivers over the age of 75 must renew every four years.

You can renew in person at a driver exam station or though the mail. To renew in person, bring your old license or some other proof of identity to the driver license station. You will pay $40.50.

Renewal by mail is a little more complicated. You will need to complete the renewal application, which can be found at this link:

http://www.doj.mt.gov/driving/forms/21-1900b.pdf .

You will also need to complete a medical examination and an eye examination. The forms for these are here:

http://www.doj.mt.gov/driving/forms/20-1900b.pdf and http://www.doj.mt.gov/driving/forms/22-1801.pdf .

These have to be filled out by a medical professional. Send all of these documents along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Motor Vehicle Division
Montana Department of Justice
393 North Roberts P. O. Box 201430
Helena, Montana 59620

You can only renew by mail every other time you renew.
