How can I renew my Texas Drivers License?

Answer:
Texas issues driver’s licenses for six-year
periods. When it is time to renew, you can either renew online, in person, through the mail, or over the phone.

If your previous renewal was done in person, are over 18, and have a good driving record you are likely eligible to renew online.

To renew online, visit http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/ and enter your information. You will need your Social Security number and your current license number. You will also have to pay the $24 fee via credit card. There is a $1 service charge to pay online.

You can renew in person at a driver license office in your area. They have the renewal form at the office, and you will need to pay a $24 fee.

You can sometimes renew over the phone. To find out if you are eligible to renew over the phone, call 866-357-3639.

If you are eligible to renew through the mail, your renewal notice will provide the instructions on how to apply in this manner.
