Driver’s licenses in the state of Utah
are issued for five-year periods. They expire on the driver’s birthday. You can renew your license any time within six months of the expiration date.

Drivers who are in the Good Driver Program can renew online or through the mail. These are drivers who have less than five moving violations in the five-year period in which they have had their current licenses.

If you are qualified for this, you will be sent a notice 90 days before your license expires. The notice will tell you how to renew through the mail.

You can also renew online at https://secure.utah.gov/dlr/ . You will only pay $15 to renew in this way, and you will be sent a sticker to attach to your current license. You can only renew online or through the mail every other time you renew.

Anyone can renew in person at a driver license field office. The cost to renew in person is $20. That cost is dropped to $8 for those over 65. Drivers must take an eye exam when renewing in person.
