How can I renew my Virginia Drivers License?

Answer:
Most drivers’ licenses in the state of Virginia
are good for five years. The expiration date is usually your birthday. You can renew any time in the two years before the expiration date.

You can renew over the phone, online, through the mail, or in person. Your renewal notice will tell you what type of renewal is available to you.

To renew by phone, call 1-888-337-4782 and work through the automated system. You will have to pay the renewal fee via credit card.

To renew online, visit https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/ and follow the instructions. Again, you will have to pay the fee via credit card.

To renew by mail, fill in the renewal application that you were sent in the mail, changing anything that is incorrect. Sign and date the application, and return it with the payment to:

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 26506
Richmond, VA 23260

Whether you renew online, over the phone, or through the mail, your new license will be sent in the mail, so be sure to allow plenty of time to receive your new license.

If you renew in person, you will be asked to complete a vision exam. Your renewal notice will tell you if you are required to renew in person. No matter which way you renew, you will pay $4 per year that the new license is good for. This means that if you are renewing for the standard five-year timeframe, you will pay $20.
