How can you ensure the person you sold a vehicle to has transferred the title and registration? |
|
Answer:
You can’t force the buyer to follow through with If you are concerned that the new owner won’t do what’s necessary to transfer the title, contact your state’s DMV. They should have some faqs about title transfer and vehicle ownership. Most states offer paperwork for you to complete which signifies your notification that you are no longer the vehicle owner. This includes the date of sale. Make sure you have the buyer’s contact information to include in this paperwork. At this point, you should no longer receive notices for vehicle registration, but if the new owner still hasn’t transferred the title, you would still receive any kind of driving violation bills, such as traffic or parking tickets. If this happens, contact the office which issued the tickets and ask them what kind of paperwork they need to prove that you are no longer the vehicle owner. Once you have provided that proof, although your name will remain on the record as vehicle owner until the title is transferred, you should no longer be liable for the tickets or other bills incurred.
