How do I change my name on my driver’s license?

If your name changes while you carry a driver’s

license, you will need to register the change with the DMV as soon as you possibly can. To do so, you will need proof of the name change.

In the case of a marriage, your certified marriage license will serve as proof of your name change. If you have your name legally changed in court for another reason, take the court documentation to serve as proof of your name change. Take the proof to the DMV along with your current license. There you will be issued a new license with your new name. Your current license will likely need to be surrendered in order to get your new one.
