How do I transfer a car title in-state and out-of-state in Ohio?

Answer:
If you’re new to the Buckeye state, you need
to register and title your out-of-state vehicle at a Clerk of Courts Auto Title Office immediately upon establishing residency.

You’ll need proof of ID (photo ID and another document with your Social Security number); the original title, along with any lien information; and a valid out-of-state driver's license. A brief vehicle inspection is required, and an emissions inspection is necessary in some areas.

Title transfers for privately purchased vehicles require the seller and buyer to sign the existing title in the presence of a notary. It, along with an Application for Certificate of Title and bill of sale, should be presented at any Clerk of Courts Auto Title Office within 30 days of purchase.
