How do I transfer a car title in-state and out-of-state in Idaho?

Answer:
A vehicle in Idaho must be titled before it
can be registered. The transactions can be handled during the same visit to the county assessor’s office, and titling can also be handled by mail prior to registration.

To transfer titles, the buyer should submit a properly released title from the seller or lien holder; a bill of sale; an odometer disclosure form; and vehicle identification number verification, within 30 days of purchase.

New residents must register their vehicles within 90 days of establishing residency. At the time of registration, they need to provide access to their vehicle in order to verify the vehicle identification number; submit the current out-of-state title and registration; and show personal identification. Liability insurance is required in Idaho.
