What are the Missouri Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

Answer:
If you bring a vehicle to Missouri from another
state or purchase a vehicle while living in Missouri, you will need to title and register it. You must register the vehicle within 30 days. This requires the following documents:

· Application for Missouri Title and License

· Vehicle’s previous title or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin

· Odometer Disclosure Statement

· Notarized lien release, if required

· Proof of insurance

· Proof of paid personal property tax (no photocopies)

· Safety inspection certificate

If you live in St. Louis, Franklin, Jefferson, or St. Charles counties, you will also have to present an emissions inspection certificate. The title fee is $8.50, plus a $2.50 processing fee.

The registration is based on the weight or horsepower of your vehicle and ranges between $18.25 and $102.50. You can purchase one- or two-year registrations.

There is a $3.50 processing fee for one-year registrations and a $7 processing fee for two-year registrations. You will also be responsible for sales tax based on the rate in your county.
