What are the Montana Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

Answer:
When you purchase a car in Montana, you must
title and register it within 20 days of purchase. This requires the following documents:

· Previous title for used vehicles, with notarized signatures

· Possible Statement of Correction

· Bill of sale

· Title and registration application form

You will register at the county treasurer’s office. The title fee is $12, plus any filing fees for liens that are on the title. The rate for registration depends on how old the car is.

Cars that are four years old or less cost $217 to register. Cars that are between five and ten years old cost $87 to register. Any other vehicles cost $28 to register. You will also have to pay sales tax when you title and register your vehicle.
