What are the New York Drivers License Requirements?

To get your New York drivers license you must take

three tests. The tests include:

·    Vision test
·    Written test
·    Driving test

The fee for a license in New York is based on the applicant’s age, but will not be more than $85.

All drivers must begin with a learner’s permit. This requires proof of identity and birth date. Parents of teens who do not have enough proofs of identity can fill out Form MV-45 to verify identity for their children. Teens can apply for the learner’s permit at age 16 and must progress through the graduated license program.

A Social Security card is also required when applying for the permit. All new drivers must also complete a driver education course before applying for their licenses, no matter how old they are. Teens are required to have 20 hours of supervised driving in addition to the driving done in the course. Drivers who are under 18 have restrictions placed on their licenses.
