What are the Rhode Island Drivers License Requirements?

Answer:
Rhode Island requires all new drivers to pass three tests.
These are as follows:

· Vision test

· Written test

· Road test

The fee to receive a license in Rhode Island is $30.

All first time drivers must begin with an instructional permit. This is available when a driver is 16, but the driver must first finish a driver education course. Drivers who are over 18 do not have to take the course.

Applicants for the permit must bring a birth certificate, Social Security card, and the certificate from the driver education program. Also, teens must have parental consent to take the test for the permit.

Those who are over 18 must prove residency in Rhode Island when applying for a permit. After attaining an instructional permit and holding it for six months, teens then move on to a limited provisional license, which restricts the times they can drive.

At age 17 ½ the driver can apply for a full operator’s license, provided the driver has had the limited provisional license for one year. The limited provisional license automatically changes to a full license at age 18.
