What are the Rhode Island Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

Answer:
If you purchase a new or used vehicle in Rhode Island,
you must apply for a title and registration. To do so, you must bring the following documents to the DMV:

· Title application, signed and notarized

· Sales tax form

· Proof of insurance

· Driver’s license or ID

· VIN check performed by police department

· Title signed over to you, or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin

· Application for Registration, signed and notarized

The DMV has a notary public that you can use for the notarized forms. The fee for registration is $30. You will also have to pay a $25 title fee.

When you register the vehicle you will be responsible for the 7% sales tax, if you did not pay it at the dealership where you purchased the vehicle.
