What are the South Carolina Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

If you purchase a vehicle in the state of South Carolina,
you must title and register it within 45 days of purchase. To register and title a vehicle, you will need to submit the following documents to the DMV:


· Identification

· Registration Application Form 400

· Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin or current title signed to you

· Lien information

· Proof of insurance

· Proof of paid property taxes

· Bill of sale



The fee for the title is $15. You also will have to pay a registration fee, which is $24 for passenger cars. The casual sales tax on newly purchased vehicles is 5% of the purchase price.
