What are the Tennessee Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

Answer:
To title and register a vehicle in the state of Tennessee,
you must visit your local county clerk’s office with the following documents:

· Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin or Certificate of Title

· Vehicle invoice for new vehicles

· Odometer Disclosure Statement for used vehicles

· Copy of current registration to transfer plates

· Proof of insurance

· Proof of residency

· Application for title and registration

The fee for a title is $10.50. You will also pay a $24 fee to register the vehicle. Some counties, such as Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, Hamilton, and Wilson, require a smog and emissions check for vehicles before they can be registered.

New vehicles are exempt from this requirement. You will also need to pay any applicable sales taxes when you register the vehicle.
