What are the Virginia Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

Answer:
If you have purchased a new or used vehicle in the
state of Virginia, you will need to title and register it. To do so, bring the following documents to the nearest Virginia DMV Customer Service Center:

· Application for Certificate of Title and Registration

· Proof of address

· Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin or old title

· Bill of sale

· Proof of insurance

The fee to title a vehicle is $10. You will also have to pay a 3% sales tax based on the amount you paid for the vehicle.

The registration fee varies based on the type of vehicle you are registering, but passenger vehicles cost between $39.50 and $44.50 to register. After registering the vehicle, it must be inspected. Some areas require emissions inspection as well.
