What are the West Virginia Vehicle Registration and Title Requirements?

If you purchase a new or used car in the state of West Virginia,
you are required by law to have a title in your name. You also must register the vehicle in order to receive license plates. To title and register a vehicle, you must bring or mail the following documents to the DMV office in your area:


· Old title or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin

· Form DMV-1-TR

· Bill of sale

You will pay a 5% privilege tax. The fee for the title is $10, plus $5 to record any liens. There is a $30 fee for registering the vehicle. New residents are required to register their vehicles within 30 days of declaring residency in West Virginia.
