What do I do if I lose my vehicle title?

Answer:
If you lose your vehicle title, you will need

to get a new certified copy from the DMV in your state. Most states have applications that you can download from their websites to apply for the new copy of your title.

If no application is available online, visit your state’s vehicle titles and registration office to apply. You will have to pay a fee for the title. You will also have to prove your identity, which can usually be done with a copy of your driver’s license. Each state has different rules that apply to replacing vehicle titles, so if you lose yours, be sure to check with your state’s DMV .
