What is a Motorcycle Permit?

Answer:
With automobile driver’s licenses, a driver must
first get a driver’s permit in order to practice, then take the test for a licenseMotorcycle permits are similar, although they have some important differences based on the differences between cars and motorcycles.

While with a driver’s permit, the new driver is only allowed to drive with an adult in the front passenger seat, a motorcycle permit requires that the motorcyclist carry no passenger at all, to allow him or her to become used to driving a motorcycle before becoming responsible for a passenger as well.  Along with this restriction, the holder of a motorcycle permit may also only be allowed to ride his or her motorcycle during the day, depending upon the jurisdiction.

In order to obtain a motorcycle permit, a potential motorcyclist must pass both a written and vision examination and pay a small fee.  Within a certain amount of time, the motorcyclist must take a driving test and pay another fee to obtain a motorcycle license.  In certain areas, holders of a motorcycle permit may take motorcycle driving and safety courses in order to then get a motorcycle license.
